It’s YOUR Light

Matthew 5:14-16

14“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

How you can let YOUR light shine:

1. Be real and be you.

God has designed you how you are. He gave you your personality, talents, and your weaknesses for a reason. God has called you to do something that involves the gifts that He has given you. His calling for your life is to be who He made you to be, not to be anyone else.

Being yourself means admitting your road blocks. Walking around like you have it all together is giving people an unrealistic picture of who you are. Instead of hiding your troubles, display the grace that God has given you and how your life has changed. Shining your light involves you being real. People don’t want what you have unless you’re going to be real with them.

2. Serve because you want to.

Serving people is what I believe, is the most effective way to shine your light. Sometimes just “serving” isn’t enought though. So many times I’ve served because I had to, I’ve served to get a signature so that I could stay in a club at school, I’ve served because I’ve wanted money, you name it. The kind of serving that is going to display your light is going to be serving out of the ordinary. Serving because you want to, serving because you see someone that is in need, serving because you know that you are ultimately serving Christ. This serving is the kind of servanthood that shines light.

3. Realize that it’s what you’ve been called to do.

Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
