Just to set things up: Gideon is an Israelite and they’re stuck under the control of the Midianites. Check this out:

Judges 6:11-14

11 The angel of the LORD came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. 12 When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, he said, “The LORD is with you, mighty warrior.”

13 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the LORD bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the LORD has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.”

14 The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”

Alright, so let’s look at this one second. Gideon is in hiding and he’s threshing wheat. I don’t know about you but I think this dude is as weak sauce as they come. I see Gideon as “this guy”.

I see Gideon as the wack guy that comes in and is like, “Anybody want any wheat?!” haha

We clearly see that he wasn’t the guy anybody expected to step up and do something. But that’s where God comes in. The angel appears to Gideon and calls him a might warrior hahaha let’s get serious (Point 1: what other people think of you isn’t what God thinks of you!!) . Then the angel tells him to “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand.”

Gideon, the most unlikely candidate to do ANYTHING was about to save Israel if he did one thing: went in the strength he had. Did he have tons of strength? No. Did he have tons of talents and giftings? No. All Gideon had to do was give what he had and God would take care of the rest.

And God is calling you and me to this very same thing. He has great plans for us and to carry out through us (Ephesians 2:10). But the problem with this is so often we feel under-qualified. We feel unworthy or unequipped to do big things. But it’s not about what we can do, it’s about  giving what we can offer and letting God take care of the rest.

You feel like you don’t have any influence? Okay, GO IN THE STRENGTH YOU HAVE.

You feel like you aren’t talented in anything? Okay, GO IN THE STRENGTH YOU HAVE.

You feel like you’re constantly failing? Okay, GO IN THE STRENGTH YOU HAVE.

You feel worried about what others are going to think? Okay, GO IN THE STRENGTH YOU HAVE.

We don’t need to be superman for God to use us. We need to give him what we have and let him take care of the rest.

Go make some biscuits :p
